The Forum of German-Speaking Namibians has learnt with great sadness and grief of the passing on of the Founding Father of our beloved Namibian Nation and first elected President of the Republic of Namibia, His Excellency Dr Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma.
Dr Nujoma spear-headed the liberation struggle for the independence of Namibia with vision, vigour and determination for over 30 years which earned him the highest respect and recognition locally and internationally.
After the negotiated settlement for Namibia’s Independence, Dr Nujoma laid the foundation for Namibia’s future being built on the foundations of liberty, unity and solidarity.
Dr Nujoma was also instrumental in developing and implementing the policy of national reconciliation which was promoted under the unitary slogan of „One Namibia, One Nation.“
The Forum of German-Speaking Namibians is forever grateful to our Founding Father for his invaluable contribution in securing freedom of speech and expression being entrenched in our Constitution which paved the way for peaceful cohabitation and the continued cultural diversity in our motherland including the protection of our mother language, German.
Our sincere condolences go to his wife and former First Lady Kovambo Nujoma, his immediate family and all relatives and the entire Namibian nation.
We salute our Founding Father with a final “One Namibia, One Nation!”
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
