The Forum of German-Speaking Namibians has learnt with great shock and disbelief of the untimely death of the third freely elected President of the Republic of Namibia, His Excellency Dr Hage Geingob today.
Dr Geingob was the chief architect of the Namibian Constitution of 1990 which is well-respected and recognized internationally.
His presidential reign since 2015 was characterized by notable challenges and difficulties whereas in particular the Covid-19 era was handled commendably earning Namibia a lot of respect nationally and internationally.
President Geingob must be credited for his efforts in restoring investors‘ confidence and he was personally responsible in paving the way for attracting big international multinationals in the green Hydrogen, Oil and Gas sectors to Namibia. The foresight of establishing the NIPDB in March 2021 to facilitate and develop and promote Namibia is another notable achievement.
During President Geingob’s reign the Joint Declaration was initialled in May 2021 marking a tangible proposed outcome after longstanding negotiations between the Governments of Germany and Namibia on the Genocide issue.
The late Hage Geingob endeavoured to be a President for all and offered and requested all Namibians to take up their rightful place in the Namibian house.
Our sincere condolences go to the First Lady Monica Geingos, his immediate family and all relatives and the entire Namibian nation.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
