The Forum of German-Speaking Namibians has learnt with great sadness and grief of the passing on of the Founding Father of our beloved Namibian Nation.
Mit großer Bestürzung hat das Forum Deutschsprachiger Namibier verfolgt, wie sich die Ereignisse am 27. November, dem Wahltag, entwickelt haben.
Deeply saddened by the loss of President Hage Geingob, a visionary who steered Namibia with dignity, especially during Covid-19. His work fostered international partnerships and addressed historical issues. Our condolences to his family and Namibia.
The Namibian Constitution was created by different Namibian Parties including SWAPO and DTA, and some members are still in leadership positions today. It allowed democratic elections, which brought SWAPO to power. It is the one document which all laws are governed by, it defines the Namibia we live in. But currently, our Constitution is under threat.
Die namibische Verfassung wurde von verschiedenen Organisationen und Einzelpersonen erarbeitet, einschließlich Vertretern der SWAPO und der DTA. Einige dieser Personen bekleiden bis heute hohe Ämter. Unsere Verfassung ermöglichte das Abhalten demokratischer Wahlen, aus denen die SWAPO als Sieger hervorging. Die Verfassung steht über allen Gesetzen; sie definiert das Namibia, in dem wir leben. Jetzt steht sie unter massiven Druck.
On 16 June 2023, an article was published in “The Namibian” newspaper under the heading ‘Germany and Namibia: Mockery of Reconciliation and Justice’ by authors Sima Luipert, Henning Melber and Jephta Nguherimo. As Forum of German-speaking Namibians, we are deeply concerned about the authors’ disrespectful attitude.
With regard to the recent discussion around the future of colonial monuments and buildings, the Forum of German-Speaking Namibians would like to add its voice.
In view of its objective to establish and maintain conciliatory dialogue the Forum welcomes this proposal to remember a daughter of Namibia with a street name in one of the most prominent capitals in the world.
Die große Ehre, die Benennung einer Straße nach ihr in einer der bedeutsamsten Hauptstädte der Welt, würde sich diese Tochter Namibias mehr als würdig erweisen.
Das Forum möchte die namibische Regierung ausdrücklich für ihre Handhabung der Covid-19-Pandemie loben. Die Vorgehensweise der Regierung in einer Zeit voller neuer Herausforderungen wurde als generell mit ruhiger Hand durchgeführt, transparent und effektiv empfunden.
